Formats of Tenses




Present

1.Simple Present Tense:

Format: S+MV(s/es)*+O
Ex 1: He makes tea.
Ex 2: They like us.

*If the subject appears to be 3rd person and singular number, main verb takes 's' or 'es'.

2. Present Continuous Tense:

Format: S+Am/Is/Are+MV1st(ing)+O
Ex: She is helping me.

3.Present Perfect Tense:

Format: S+Have/Has+MV3rd+O
Ex: They have forced him to do it.

4.Present Perfect Continuous Tense:

Format: S+Have/Has+Been+MV1st(ing)+O
Ex 1: We have been playing football for an hour.
Ex 2: She has been singing a song since the morning.

*'For' denotes the whole time course of the action.
*'Since' denotes the starting time of the action.


Past


1.Simple Past Tense:

Format: S+MV2nd+O
Ex: Simi called me.

2.Past Continuous Tense:

Format: S+Was/Were+MV1st(ing)+O
Ex: They were singing a song together.

3.Past Perfect Tense:

Format: S+Had+MV3rd+O
Ex: We had planned everything.

4.Past Perfect Continuous Tense:

Format: S+Had+Been+MV1st(ing)+O
Ex: The man had been reading before she arrived.


Future

1.Simple Future Tense:

Format: S+Shall/Will+MV1st+O
Ex: Mimi will try this.

2.Future Continuous Tense:

Format: S+Shall/Will+Be+MV1st(ing)+O
Ex: I shall be going home.

3.Future Perfect Tense:

Format: S+Shall/Will+Have+MV3rd+O
Ex: They will have filled the drum with water by tomorrow night.

4.Future Perfect Continuous Tense:

Format: S+Shall/Will+Have+Been+MV1st(ing)+O
Ex: Ram will have been writing a letter.

N.B:
S = Subject
MV = Main Verb 
O = Object



 Present (V1st)  Past (V2nd)  Past Participle (V3rd)
